Stage Setting


Stage Setting examines position and progress in the journey towards becoming a process managed organization or sub-unit. Focused Management consultants interview senior managers and undertake a document review of the strategic directions of the organization, along with an assessment of the measurement and management initiatives, to identify critical issues. Subsequent analysis creates a series of deliverables, which are consequently validated and used for action planning in management workshops. The deliverables might include any or all of the following for the unit being reviewed:
  • The identification or confirmation of Critical Success Factors (CSF), Critical Business Issues (CBI) and linkages to process goals
  • A full or partial Key-Process Inventory – a description of the processes that are employed by the organization, including information on boundaries, definitions, inputs, outputs, major sub-processes, suppliers, customers, process management issues and key measurements
  • A process relationship analysis (map) and other graphic displays
  • An assessment of how existing measurement and management methods and improvement initiatives line up with overall performance objectives
  • Recommendations that will help move the organization further along the continuum of process management
  • Management workshop(s) to review findings, recommendations and methodologies and plan next steps
  • Proposed schedule for relevant change implementation
  • Reviews and recommendations as to what is needed to change the organization, to accomplish stated goals and strategies

Process Performance Analysis and Improvement (PPAI)


PPAI features analysis of core processes in their current mode of operation (CMO), identification of performance gaps, evaluation of current performance against critical success factors and business issues, redesign for performance-oriented future mode of operation (FMO), and best practices review, if appropriate, all leading to redesign recommendations. After approval of redesign recommendations, including rough approach, resources and schedule, Focused Management consultants will provide expertise, methodology and guidance to design and implementation teams. If required, this will include appropriate interfacing with information technology and/or ERP to ensure alignment between people, processes, organization and software applications.


Process Knowledge Management Deployment (PKMD)


PKMD creates “living process” documentation and knowledge management using Internet technology provided by ProCarta, an award winning software product that creates a dynamic repository for process knowledge. Focused Management’s approach to developing a ubiquitous interface for and normalization of process knowledge is fundamental to our methodology. It integrates activity analysis (ABC) with processes, to create the foundation for integration of financial and non-financial performance measurement and management. Focused Management consultants lead accountable client teams to create continuous process and knowledge management, so that despite job change, people movement or occasional user process interfacing, there should be no reason for process failure.


Human Performance and Organization Design (HPOD)


(HPOD) is founded on a detailed understanding of processes and activities in the context of the organization and its strategy. Functional and job roles, responsibilities (and measures) are determined directly from CMO or FMO process analysis. Focused Management consultants guide process teams through an evaluation of roles and responsibilities bridging into a broader analysis of organization design, as required.
